Play boardgames!

A little info...

"I just want to play a game!" That's cool - jump to "Quick and easy".
Otherwise, read the "Introduction" or check the "Boardgame collection".

Introduction

Welcome. On this site you can find a wide range of online board games. The site is focused on three things:

1. Quick and simple games to be played in gather.town.

2. A wide range of more immersive and time consumming online games to be played during game nights with people far apart.

3. Access to information of physical board game collection to use when planning game nights.

Sites (links) that do not work directly in Gather.town, will automatically open in a new tab (or in the browser, if you are visiting in the Gather.town app). Games, that do run directly in Gather.town will replace this site when pressed. To manually open any link in a new tab: Hold down "ctrl" ("cmd" on Mac) and click on the desired link.

How to...?

Q: What is this site?

A: A place to play board games online (with friends)

More games

There are many places online to play board games. A very popular (for good reason) choice is Tabletop Simulator. However, it *does* cost money and require you to install a program on your PC/Mac. A good (free) alternative is Tabletopia.

Even easier (and also free) options are to be found below. They also have the added benefit of putting less strain on your computer.

BoardGameArena

Whether you fancy a game of "Chess" with a stranger, have a group of 5 wanting to play "Pandemic" or just want to watch others play "The Castles of Burgundy", BoardGameArena is the place for you. Popular games like "7 Wonders" and "Azul" require a premium account to play.

HappyMeeple

Although easily the most simple site of the mentioned, it's free and doesn't require an account to play. Great games, like "Hanamikoji" and "Cartographers" are available here.

Brettspielwelt

German site, with English version. Many free games here. Requires an account.

Yucata

Another site with free games. Looks outdated - isn't.

Board game collection

Check the physical board game collection here or in the embedded site below. Both options are fine, but the link *does* have certain advantages, including better sorting of game suitability to a set number of players.

Quick and simple games

How? One person creates a game and sends the link (Gather.town chat or whereever)!

It's recommended to open a game tap, rather than playing in Gather.town directly, as closing the Gather game window will also close the session. How to do this, you say? Simply hold down ctrl (cmd on Mac) while clicking on the game, you want to play.

1. Create Game

or
Disclaimer for Chess: While Lichess is far superior to other cites, it *does not* play directly in Gather.town. The other option ("Chess") does.

2. Send game link to partner(s)

Use Gather's build in chat, or whichever other place you fancy.

3. Join Game

Any and all partners can type in the shared link in the box and click "Submit". This will allow you to play in Gather. Warning: Gather has iffy support for a number of gaming sites so while playing and talking in Gather is fun, opening a tap for gaming is highly recommended.

Tabletopia

Tabletopia is a "sandbox" for board games. There is no AI to control the pieces, to keep you from cheating or to make sure you do everything correctly. It's like a board game café, but online.

While it might seem overwhelming at first, it gives the player(s) freedom to play like they would at home. AND it can be played in your browser, nothing to install - many for free!

Some games, suchs as Wingspan and Everdell requires a premium account while Det Dårlige Selskab, Cartographers and Santorini are free!

There is an iOS/Android app available, but either Steam or your browser will work best. A mouse is recommended over a trackpad, but both will work.

Some suggestions for a game night

Not sure, what to play? Fear not, here are some suggestions for very different games.

Distilled

Build your destillery up, create spirits and sell them at market. Brilliant mechanics mixed with fun features. A premium whisky with a nose of vanilla and... old tires? Find out who's the best destiller! Solo version available too!

Beast

"Hidden movement" game. One player is the Beast trying to fullfil his dark contract before time runs out, the other(s) hunters! Will the hunters find and kill the Beast before he destroys the villages?

Pagan

Danish/German designed 2-player game. One is the Witch hunter protecting the people and one is the witch protecting nature. Who wins? Click here to open a game directly: Play Pagan

The Quacks of Quedlinburg

In The Quacks of Quedlinburg, players are charlatans — or quack doctors — each making their own secret brew by adding ingredients one at a time. Take care with what you add, though, for a pinch too much of this or that will spoil the whole mixture!
